#Voices Project

Courtney J. Burg, Writer + Mentor
June 20, 2017

Part of my mission is to align myself with other individuals who seek to share their own stories to fight back against the shame and stigma that society tends to place on addicts, and Ryan Hampton is one of those people. If you aren’t familiar with him, he is sort of a ROCK STAR in the recovery world.

He produced a seven part documentary called Facing Addiction Across America, and in 2016 was an elected delegate to the 2016 Democratic National Convention from California, specifically advocating for the addiction & recovery community. One of his goals is to seek out other like-minded people in long-term recovery to join the growing movement to end the addiction epidemic. He has been featured in Forbes Magazine as one of the “four top social entrepreneurs advancing the nationwide recovery movement,” and has been showcased in the Huffington Post, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, CBS, NBC, ABC, Upworthy, Dr. Oz, and even the White House. Like I said, he’s totally rock star status.

So when I heard about his Voices Project, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. He is using his platform to expose other’s stories, as he understands and believes in the healing benefits of doing just that. He is quick to emphasize that there is no shame in sharing our experiences, and believes (like I do) that “our words can support, inspire, and create change during such a critical time.”

Take a moment to read my submission, as I provide some new details not featured on my website.
