Happy New Year MoJo friends! Maybe you have been following this blog for a while, or perhaps we were recently brought together thanks to the amazing Palm Mom convention that took place last Fall? If you attended, you should have received my FREE e-book titled “Moms and Mental Health: WHAT it is, WHY it matters, HOW to cope.” However which way we may have connected, I am so grateful we have! I want to share with you a bit about what has been happening over here at Mombo Jombo and ways you can get involved:
- My latest publication is still running over on TCPalm.com called “WE RECOVER.” You may remember it is a follow up to the former series on “Breaking the Silence” and it’s mission is still the same; to shed light on Mental Health issues and fight back against the shame and stigma many face while suffering in silence. This series features local men and women living inside recovery for various mental health issues and currently working in Palm Beach County with a passion to help others find similar support and freedom. Last month we featured a local husband and father who is working first hand with addicts on our streets, providing assistance and resources to get folks clean, and keep them clean. Check out the entire story here. Stay tuned as next week a local Wellington woman who is in recovery for post partum depression accompanied by intrusive thoughts is featured. I was so moved by Jennifer’s story and cannot wait for you to read it! I am incredibly grateful for her courage and willingness to come forth and openly discuss her story, as I am confident it will ignite healing and support for so many mothers in our area. Do you or someone you know live with a mental health issue and currently work in a field fueled by a passion to serve others with similar challenges? Contact me for a possible feature in an upcoming column! Let’s work together to change the conversation around mental health.
- Three weeks ago we kicked off a free women’s support group (Adult Children) on Friday mornings at Tropical Sands Church in Palm Beach Gardens. It is at 10:30a for an hour every week and is dedicated to helping women break free from toxic cycles and thoughts stemming from their childhood and living inside ANY type of dysfunctional household. We read from the ACA Big Red Book followed by an open discussion. Join us to find a community of women who can relate to your experiences, learn to set appropriate boundaries, establish a self care plan and begin to intuitively make healthier choices. Our group is safe and anonymous. Message me with questions!
- Finally, I am thrilled to announce that our civic engagement project over at Leadership Palm Beach County has officially launched! I am among a team of brilliant classmates who have worked extremely hard to organize, promote and distribute a Suicide Prevention Student Film Contest on behalf of 211 Crisis Helpline of Palm Beach County. For submission details and rules, please visit http://www.211palmbeach.org/txt211 . There will be cash prizes for top 3 winners and the first place PSA will be aired in partnership with WPTV! Know of a student or organization who may be interested? Share the info and please help us spread the word! We are working to save lives in Palm Beach County.

Phew! Well, that is it for now! Again, I am SO happy we have connected. My goal is to continue supporting women through this messy, confusing, beautiful thing called LIFE.
