Since becoming a mama to 3 girls, I’ve worked hard to redefine “nice.” The world likes to tell us it’s giving at all costs, smiling through tears, + keeping quiet. For generations women have been expected to look pretty, act politely + have a servant heart. Somewhere along the way these demands have also become entangled with martyrdom, pretending + ultimately losing one’s self. I want more for my children. I want more for me. 🤍
How have you been taught to “be nice?” 👇🏼
Edited to add that a community member shared with me the original root meaning (from the Etymology Dictionary) of NICE is: “foolish, ignorant, frivolous, senseless,” from Old French nice (12c .) “careless, clumsy; weak; poor.” 😳😳😳
